Specializations

Anger Management

Do you find yourself getting irritated easily and often? Do you have a hard time understanding or expressing how you feel? Do you get defensive and heated during a difficult conversation? Have you ever experienced a moment of impulsive and sudden rage and felt unable to control it? Is this agitation affecting relationships with family, friends, coworkers, or classmates?

Anger is considered a secondary emotion to sadness, stress, grief, and anxiety, and anger management can help you learn to respond to stressful situations better.

I specialize in helping people who are struggling to manage daily stress, conflict, and anger. The work we will do together will help you understand where these feelings of anger come from. You will be able to defuse your anger by learning to express yourself in healthy ways through gaining insight and self-awareness, identifying triggers, using coping skills, learning emotion regulation, and improving communication skills to manage conflict more effectively.

Teenagers and Young adults

 Growing up is hard.

As a teenager or young adult it sometimes feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. You are trying to find who you are, who you want to become, and how you are going to get there. You may find yourself becoming anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed because of societies expectations. So you are trying to manage a social life, a job, a relationship, friendships, and you have a front row seat to what others have going on in their own lives through social media.

How stressful to worry about so many things at once.

How nice to have found a place where you are able to let it all go and work through it.

I help teenagers and young adults overcome stress, improve self-esteem, establish healthy relationships, resolve conflict, navigate life stages (marriage, divorce, break ups, jobs loss/change, moving, grief, going to college, etc), and manage anxiety/depression through the use of emotion regulation, effective coping and communication skills, setting SMART goals and boundaries, and offering guidance and a new perspective so you can make life-long positive changes

“CBT helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.”

Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research. (2019, March 16). Cognitive behavioral therapy. Mayo Clinic. https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/cognitive-behavioral-therapy/about/pac-20384610

“Clients learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives. With this understanding, clients begin to accept their hardships and commit to making necessary changes in their behavior, regardless of what is going on in their lives and how they feel about it.”

“Family systems therapy is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the family as a whole unit. A central tenet of this approach is that a family is an emotional unit and individual behavior must be considered from the context of the family. People are influenced by their family but each person also influences their entire family”

“Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope friendly, positive emotion eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change.”

"Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that helps you identify self-defeating thoughts and feelings, challenge the nature of irrational and unproductive feelings, and replace them with healthier, more productive beliefs....Once identified and understood, negative thoughts and actions can be changed and replaced with more positive and productive behavior allowing you to develop more successful personal and professional relationships."

"Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modified type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others"

“This form of psychotherapy is grounded in the idea that people are inherently motivated toward achieving positive psychological functioning. The client is believed to be the expert in their life and leads the general direction of therapy, while the therapist takes a non-directive role.”
